North Scranton Junior High School

Well as often happens, the newscasters on WNEP-TV have made another mistake. I have never heard of a school named North Scranton Intermediate School. That could be because it never existed. What did exist is the North Scranton Junior High School. This is an historical site and they decided to change its name in their newscast. Who do they think they are? One of them never even lived here when NSJH was in existence. Those of us who have lived here all of our lives, remember NSJH as a wonderful place where many of us (my brother included) went to school. After leaving this institution, he attended Scranton Central High School another place which doesn't exist anymore. But it was purchased by a Community College who at least tried to put it back to close to the way it was when it was Central High School. Whoever they had do the research for this news piece should be fired. How hard would it have been to have called to verify the name of a building? I thought that was part of a journalist's responsibility. At least that is what I was taught at the University of Scranton when I studied for a degree in Communications. But then, I only expect that I would research or verify all information that I speak. Apparently, the person who wrote this piece didn't feel it important to the public. Well, I think it does matter. History is history. Would they rewrite history and call Hitler a Saint?

  • Actually, they've been calling it "North Scranton Intermediate" in all of the Times-Shamrock media outlets for quite some time, as well as WNEP. So long, in fact, that I was unaware that it carried a different name...

  • Umm, it was called North Scranton Intermediate. I went there as did my cousins and siblings. Before going off on a rant you know nothing about to feign intelligence, you should know THAT.
